Text Box: April Rider Ed
Preparing for the ride

I’ve recently become interested in Amateur (Ham) Radio and have found it to be an enjoyable and challenging hobby. Learning the skills to pass the test for your license and adjusting your equipment so that it works as it was intended can be a trial. Contacting another ham seems like magic when you take into account the many variables within the electronic hardware and the multiple choices available within each band. You can believe me when I say that I’ve been seriously confused several times since I started on this road of exploration but my classes and instructors have prepared me for it as best they can.

The act of riding your motorcycle the first time in the spring is not un-similar to that of studying for a class such as the one I recently took. First, you need to make sure that you have all of the necessary materials for class.

That would include things like:

1.	class preparation (concentrate on what you’re doing)
2.	study materials such as your updated ERC rider education course,
3.	the proper paraphernalia like Leathers, Helmet and Gloves, boots, etc.
4.	and of course the last minute cramming (your T-Clock inspection)…

So remember, when you’re getting ready for your next ride, whether it’s first thing this spring or later in the year when you’re going out for a quick ride to the corner store or maybe at the start of your summer vacation. Make sure that you’re prepared and that you bring all of your materials along with you before you leave. You’ll be more likely to get a passing grade and everyone likes to get an “A”.
